I was given my first microplane  about 7 years ago. Since that moment, I   discovered that lemon zest was no longer a nasty word and freshly grated parmesan was a delight to prepare. I have only ever used one for everything from grated chocolate to lime zest  so do not feel that you need to invest in an entire line of microplanes. Choose one and use it for as many different items as possible. I would say that the zester is best for everything.
